Welcoming Bold Leadership for California’s Students: James B. Milliken Named UC President

The Campaign for College Opportunity congratulates James B. Milliken on his appointment as President of the University of California.  He has been praised as a leader who has championed college access for undocumented and low-income students, and at a time of immense challenge and change in higher education—particularly in light of recent federal actions impacting equity, access, and opportunity—we believe bold, student-centered leadership is more important than ever.

The University of California (UC) system plays a vital role in advancing educational equity, promoting economic and social mobility, and instituting excellence across our state and nation. We hope President Milliken will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to racial equity and student success, and that he will lead the UC with a vision that champions students—especially those historically underrepresented in higher education. We look forward to working with President Milliken and the Board of Regents to continue making the promise of economic mobility through a college education a reality for every student in California.
